A beginner’s mind, then, is what allows us to embrace the highest emotional qualities such as enthusiasm, zeal and optimism to creatively move ourselves forward.

For me, to unplug is to give up craving, to live mindfully, to move toward nirvana (Sanskrit for “complete liberation”).

Between trying to survive, lead, and create with multiple simultaneous projects, it’s been a busy year. I am often asked how I manage to keep it together.

We repeatedly find ourselves in stormy waters, strong tides, and facing fierce winds. But that elemental energy can be harnessed and converted into productive, sustainable, and positive relationships and outcomes.

Each one of us is on a unique journey. I don’t know about you, but throughout most of my life, for whatever little successes I have had, it has been about putting most of my energies toward that last 10 percent.

To lead an impactful life, it takes fearless passion, courage, and relentless mental disciplines that come from deep insights into our own soul.

That craving and desire is a momentary delusion. Since most of us can’t fly of to an exotic island, visit a detox spa, or leave the internet for a few weeks, we all need to find our own ways to unplug daily to connect and to lead.
Even when we don’t get what we want, we gain valuable experience. Experiences are often much more valuable than a material outcome. Material outcomes slowly decay; experiences (positive or negative) can stay with us and create a foundation for the future.
On this particular rainy spring Sunday, staring at the dogwood tree and the Buddha outside of my door, for a moment or two, I can feel the calmness of mother nature.

When it comes to the negative creeps that are keeping you from achieving your goals, garlic probably won’t do the trick. But these tactics will.
